This is especially handy if you travel with a big bag strapped on top of the passenger seat.

The fact that only the rider seat lifts to open is a plus in my book because I can put stuff on the passenger seat as I take things in/out of the storage compartment. Underseat storage on Majesty is considerably bigger. It doesn't have a thermometer as majesty does (I like being able to see the temperature). Burgman has a nicer looking instrument panel that appears easier to read, but is positioned lower. I wouldn't have a problem taking either on a cross-country solo trip. Burgman feels slightly more stable and handles bumps noticeably better. They are pretty equal at highway speeds. Majesty is more gentle on start, but then smoothly and powerfully pulls away like a slingshot. Burgman pulls harder off the line, but tapers off when the revs get up. Majesty's is quite handy, but can interfere with some ad-ons like heated grips. I like the hand brake position on the Burgman better. Burgman has a moderate advantage because of the floorboard cut-off - considerably easier to put one's feet down when stopped. I didn't notice any major difference in seating position, handlebar angle and other comfort elements. Overall, I'd say they are more-less on par, with only about 5-10% difference in some aspects. I have a '05 Majesty with 33,000Km and just rode an '06 Burgman (13,000Km) for 120Km (transporting it for a friend). We will have it Eureka Springs this year.Įither one you decide to get you won't go wrong. Man when you hit the brakes it really lights up! Its a one of a kind. I also mounted LED lights on the tow-pac fenders. My bride now enjoys the Majesty as a Mini Trike The Majesty is the reason I traded my GW for the 650 Burgman. while my trusty Gold Wing collected dust. The 400 Burgman I belive has been around since 99. Is because they have only been out since 05. I don't think the Burgman offers these.ĭon't forget the reason why you may only see a Majesty in the "Wild" as one post read. My whole foot is protected & they look sharp on the bike. I also like the extra protection I get from the side wind deflectors. I bought the Majesty new in 05 simply because I liked the way it looked & the color. With friends like that, who needs enemies? I ended up ordering the parts myself from a place in Florida who got them here in just a few days. That was about six weeks ago and they still haven't called. They told me they'd call when the parts came in. A week later I called to find out they didn't have the parts, so I went to get it and found they never ordered the mirror. So I went to get it and it does run pretty well but since then, a mirror has broken off and the front fork needs to be replaced. Three months later I called to find it had been done for weeks and no one ever called me. A guy at the place said sure, he could drop in a 70cc motor and other performance parts, bring it by. It's a decent scooter for what it is, but I needed a little more oomph to keep from being run over by the many, MANY clueless on the roads around here. Last year I bought a CPI Oliver City 50 from the local Yamaha dealer. But ownership of the 650 is like day and night. This problem did not show up on acceleration.Ĭentrifugal clutch pads would have needed a dressing up with sand paper as more throttle was required to initiate movement from a stopped position.Īpart from that, it was a fine machine to ride. From the discussions I had with the dealer, my feeling was that I'd have to live with it and that was not acceptable in my book. The dealer replaced a bunch of parts on Yamaha's advice, to no avail. Had a very unusual weird noise like a "belt slipping" when slowing down after things warmed up in the drive train. If I remember correctly, when at the "true" speed, the revolutions hovered around 6200-6500 rpm. Though I mostly ride on side roads, if I have to go from point A to point B, I use the highway and maintain 118 kph (75 mph) that the local law enforcements will tolerate. I found that the engine revolutions were a tad high at highway speeds.

Though Yamaha supplied the parts free even if the one year warranty had expired, it still cost me 328$ for the tear down labor.

The dealer stripped the motor and found that the piston skirts were self-destructing.Īfter 3 weeks of waiting for parts, I left it as a trade-in and purchased the 650. Purchased a Majesty in 05', rode it for 24000km (15000 miles) until it was found during a routine oil change in June 06' that the piston was shedding parts.
